Rolex Explorer reference 1016 dating to circa 1967, with a 1.73 million serial number and original Rolex papers dated February 1968. This 36mm stainless steel example has had just one owner from new and features the highly collectible early Mark 1 “Frog Foot” matte black dial, distinguished by its unusual Rolex coronet and rare period-correct “fat lume” hour markers associated with these early examples. The dial itself is remarkably clean and unmarked; any marks visible in the photographs are on the original-style Plexiglass crystal rather than the dial.

The original owner bought this watch to wear and enjoyed it as intended, wearing it regularly over many years. As a result, the case and lugs show genuine age-related wear, which we have deliberately left clearly visible in the photographs. The watch is currently running very well and will be supplied on a genuine Rolex NATO strap.

Supplied with its original Rolex papers dated February 1968, making this a particularly interesting one-owner example with excellent provenance. This is a commission sale on behalf of the original owner.
