Recently purchased from a long-term client, this 1999 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 16520 features a black dial, is supplied as a full collector’s set, and has been owned by the same gentleman from new.
The 16520 is widely known as the “Zenith” Daytona, referring to the El Primero–based movement used before Rolex introduced its fully in-house calibre in 2000. As one of the final years of production, a 1999 example represents the closing chapter of this important period in Daytona history.
End of an era
With its 40mm stainless steel case, slim lugs and classic steel tachymeter bezel, the 16520 remains one of the cleanest Daytona designs ever produced. The black dial gives it a sharp, balanced appearance that has aged exceptionally well.
Examples that remain unpolished and with one owner from new are becoming increasingly scarce.
